Grappling with the ending of A Season in Hell, the artist fully recognizes the implication of his creation when the sun rises in the desert and Orf descends into the abyss. The artist must reach back to what is true, essential, unencumbered. It is of course frightening to face that realization. The whole project now bears down on this crucial moment of the desert.
